Artist Statement
I want to paint something I have never seen before. This is the central motivation that has inspired my art for over 20 years. I mostly create non-representational abstract paintings because the genre allows me to paint intuitively and present my own signature.
My work is also inspired by my love of nature and music (flamenco, jazz, classical, country, pop), and I try to express underlying rhythmic moves into my paintings. Working with acrylics helps me do this. Acrylics easily allow for changes, reversals, improvements.
My work is multi-layered. I create mixed-media paintings, as well as collages and assemblages. I repaint and scrape away and add textures and papers and other mixed media materials. I want to convey the complexity of living and making art.
I’ve studied color theory for over 15 years. Colors are endless. I’m excited that there is always something to learn about color.
